Don't let the words Pizzeria scare you! Tocco is an upscale and hip Northern Italian restaurant located in the city of Chicago. The chef/owner Bruno Abate has listened to his gluten free customers! Aside from the daily fish specials, soups, grilled vegetables, divine salads and grilled steak--Tocco offers risotto and gluten free pasta to be used with any of their homemade sauces! Favorites of the gluten free boy include fresh tomato/basil sauce or aglio, olio and pepperincino! Homemade gelato, flourless chocolate cake, espresso poured over vanilla gelato or cappuccino ends the perfect Italian meal.
Bruno is a perfectionist--and his food is perfect also. When you make a reservation be sure to mention your gluten allergy and the seriousness of it. Ask your server to ensure the use of a clean pot and strainer to make your gluten free pasta.
Tocco has the coolest looooooong glass topped table as the centerpiece of their dining room- last time I counted I think the table fits 20 or 24 people! What a totally cool way to celebrate with a big group of friends. Make sure to request Eddie--he will treat you right--get your gluten free order rolling and keep your glasses full.
Another cool thing about Tocco is the big screen showing Italian fashion shows on the back wall. I told Bruno he should consider showing videos of HIMSELF cooking--I would love to learn some of his cooking secrets!
Summer at Tocco is nice because of his awesome side patio--or sit inside at the giant windows (windows open with huge industrial garage type doors). Also--as an added bonus for several months a year Bruno's cousin comes from Italy and she cooks! The amazing chef gene runs in their family--I wish these people lived with us.
